If you liked the fight against Siegecrafter Blackfuse in Siege of Orgrimmar, here is a fight for you. You engage Operator Thogar on the Iron Horde’s train rails. There are four rails and trains will juggernaut their way through and occupy one or two of the rails at different times. Players must fight against Thogar and his many adds while trying not to get killed by the trains.
At the beginning, you only face Thogar on the tracks. At this point, Thogar has two significant abilities. He does Enkindle, which is a tank debuff that forces the tanks to swap at 2 stacks. The other ability is
Prototype Pulse Grenade, which leaves a magnetic field on the ground that sucks any nearby players into it and causes ticking damage. Players should avoid standing in these.
At several points during the fight, adds will drop out from the manned trains. Grom’kar Firemenders are healers that cast Cauterizing Bolt on their wounded allies. These should be interrupted and killed first of all adds. Grom’kar Man-at-Arms are second in priority. They will do a raid-wide damaging ability called
Iron Bellow that really put the healers’ burst AoE to the test. There will also be Iron Raiders and Iron Crack-shot which do lesser but occasionally spikey damage with
Shoot Rifle,
Serrated Slash and
Throw Grenade.
The last important add is the Gunnery Sergeant which man a large cannon on board on the trains. He will fixate on a random ranged player and throw three consecutive
Delayed Siege Bombs at them. Players who get hit take some damage and get knocked back. After thirty seconds, the bombs will explode and cause heavy damage to players within 9 yards. Players who get fixated should run out of the raid and place the bombs to the sides. They should also avoid standing close to the bombs when their timer is running out, while ranged damage-dealers should kill the Gunnery Sergeant to avoid more bombs.
When the adds are active, Thogar will also Berate them every 10 seconds, increasing their damage, haste and movement speed each time. Abilities such as Iron Bellow by the Man-At-Arms can become really dangerous when Berate has many stacks. Healers should be ready with raid cooldowns if the raid drops too low by the Iron Bellows.
Meanwhile, players must avoid the deadly trains. The trains come in a fixed pattern, so it is possible to learn the pattern by heart or use an addon which announce which track the next train is coming. The signal for an incoming train is that the doors open to the track. Players should keep an eye on the doors to avoid getting hit by the train.
On about train 10 and 23, there will come two trains in the middle and drop adds on each side. The raid must split evenly when this happens and deal with them on each side. Tanks will take high damage when the adds are up and at the end of the split, when the tank who has Thogar get high stacks of Enkindle. Healers should be prepared with single-target cooldowns on the tanks, such as Pain Suppression or Life Cocoon.
As long as the DPS focus adds and cleave the boss, the damage output will be manageable for the healers while killing Thogar before the soft enrage timer (which as you could have guessed, consist of more and more trains with adds).
This fight could potentially be quite long and mana-draining. For longer fights, I suggest using Chi Torpedo or Xuen to save you mana. When there aren’t many adds up, it’s also possible to go Crane stance and stacks some extra Mana Tea. Once the Man-at-Arms are up again, the damage output will be very high and the raid will need strong and bursty healing. Rushing Jade Wind could work if your raid does high enough damage to shorten the fight. But otherwise, you will have mana problems and you should use Chi Torpedo as much as possible or cast Xuen when the adds are up.
Revival is particularly good here since it can heal the whole raid even if it’s split between trains. Life Cocoon should always be cast on the tank when adds are up. Otherwise, it’s a pretty straightforward fight that won’t give you any problems unless you stand in front of a train.
- Avoid standing in
Prototype Pulse Grenades.
- Don’t stand close to
Delayed Siege Bombs when they explode.
- Avoid getting hit by trains!
- Tanks will take high damage when adds are up!
- The raid will take high damage when the Man-at-Arms do
Iron Bellow, especially if they have several stacks of
Berated.
- When the two trains arrive at the middle, the raid should split and you should go to your designated side.
- This fight can potentially be very mana taxing. Use
Chi Torpedo or
Xuen for free healing, including your tier 2 talents.
- Start the encounter in Crane stance and aim at about 6-10 stacks of
Mana Tea.
- There will be opportunity to AoE with
Spinning Crane Kick/
Rushing Jade Wind. But do note that will deplete much of your mana pool!
- Prioritize the Grom’kar Man-at-Arms.
- Interrupt Grom’kar Firemender’s
Cauterizing Bolt.
