Mistweaver Guide updated for 6.1

fanart-1296-fullThe patch 6.1 brought a lot of changes for Mistweavers, most notably about Mana Tea and the talent tree. Since many of our healing spells emanate from the talent tree, there were many changes to consider to our normal healing rotation. I’ve updated the Mistweaver Talent Guide for the 6.1 changes and I have also made smaller adjustments to the Basic Mistweaver Guide and the Advanced Mistweaver Guide to accommodate those changes.

Among the fun changes, we have that Chi Explosion’s Serpent version got buffed from 1511% of SP to 1875% which is nice. It is also usable without breaking Soothing Mist channel, which I wonder why they didn’t have from the start. It’s just so user-friendly right now and it is really coming together with the other Mistweaver toolkits. It still isn’t as powerful as Uplift (two casts is at 1980%), but the difference is quite minimal so you will not have a huge healing loss if you prefer Chi Explosion over Uplift. You can bridge the disparity with the tier 17 2-set bonus even, so if you like Chi Explosion better there’s nothing stopping you.

Both Zen Sphere and Chi Burst got buffed as well. Chi Burst went from 203% healing to 275% per target. Zen Sphere’s HoT has gotten reduced healing in exchange for a very powerful detonation. In fact, Zen Sphere is more powerful than Chi Burst which is kinda strange and awesome at the same time. Though I think most Mistweavers will still go for Chi Burst since it doesn’t take up as many GCDs as Zen Sphere, it’s still another option for Mistweavers to consider. I will probably go with Chi Burst as a default, but switch to Zen Sphere in movement intensive fights, since Zen Sphere is an instant you can cast in all directions. Like Hans’gar and Franzok, I think is the prime example. That fight will not allow you to cast Uplift as much as you would want, so you might as well compensate that healing with Zen Sphere anyway!

If you are considering using Zen Sphere, I made some WeakAuras that can help.

These weakauras are slightly modified from the one I have in my WeakAura Library. The aura that shows cooldown will start to glow once you are able cast it again. The aura that shows the duration will activate if your current target is buffed with Zen Sphere. If you have no target, it will instead show the duration of your own Zen Sphere, if you have one. Both auras will only load if you have chosen Zen Sphere as a talent and when you are in combat. I’ve found these to be quite helpful!

But continuing with the 6.1 changes. Chi Torpedo got a significant buff and will probably be the default choice if your mana regen can’t cope with Rushing Jade Wind’s high mana cost. I’m a little sad that Xuen is still only at 40,2% of attack power though we were promised somewhere before the launch of Warlords that he was going to inherit 66,6% of the Mistweaver’s attack power. I like Xuen as a talent, but there won’t be many fights where he’s better than Chi Torpedo. Maybe Beastlord Darmac and Iron Maidens… All the other encounters, Chi Torpedo is a strong winner.

Breath of the Serpent also got a buff, so it’s quite a strong raid cooldown at this point. It’s still bloody difficult to aim with it though! I would still save it for some really niched fights where the raid is stacked during a point of high damage in a short period. Kind of like Firestorm by Flamebender Ka’graz. But I think I will mostly go with Pool of Mist anyway. Maybe Chi Explosion in some fights. So many choices!

Well, anyway. I discuss all the talents in-depth on my talent page anyway, so please take a look!

  1. Thanks for the updates, really useful as always!

I have to say that I’ve tried Chi Explosion and Zen Sphere myself during once raid since 6.1 released, but I was not happy with the results. Zen Sphere was very hard to track (maybe your WA can help me with that) and Chi Explosion felt weird (in order not to overheal, I had to stay a lot of time at 4 Chi waiting for the right moment to cast it, while channeling only SooM in the meantime – I didn’t want to waste Chi by casting something else. And I didn’t want to get into melee too). Anyway, I need to practice a lot in order to use those properly.

Regarding Weak Auras, I was wondering if you could share a few of your other Auras too. I have tried to make some myself, but I’ve noticed some issues that I’m desperately trying to solve (i.e: Chi Brew has two stacks, but the moment I use just one the Icon of my Auras starts the CD-phase and doesn’t tell me anymore if I still have another stack). Moreover, what do you use to manage your RM properly (see if at least 6 players have RM on, etc…). At the moment, I am simply using Vudho, but maybe a more reliable way exists.

Anyway, thanks for your insight :)

    1. I think in regards to both Chi Explosion and Zen Sphere there is a huge adjustment to make and it can take a while before you feel comfortable enough to use them both optimally. But there are good alternatives to both, so if you don’t like them there are other spells that can perform just as good if not better.

Creating a WeakAura that tracks both stacks and cooldown requires some coding to make it work, I believe. I’m not proficient in coding, so I’m sorry to say I can’t contribute to anything in that area. As for the Renewing Mist tracker, I use a weakaura created by Lorcedes. You can find the link to that aura at the bottom of my WeakAura Library page! :)

    2. Hey so for WA, the RM aura is very easy to make it show stacks. Under the “trigger” tab, got to check “unit” and select “group” from the drop down mini-menu.

An option for “group member count” appears – make sure it’s checked. Now it will tell you how many raid members have RM on them.
