The Big Mistweaver Feedback Post 3.0

Before I start, I just want to say that I think mistweavers are turning out great for Battle for Azeroth. We have active Soothing Mist back which contributes to a much smoother 5-man rotation, we got new and interesting talents on our talent tree and we’ve become more well-rounded. Nonetheless, there are a few areas that need polishing, which is why I’ve written this post! Let’s go through them together.

Soothing Mist Discussion

Changes since we last discussed it:

  • Soothing Mist  – Each tick of SooM now has a chance to cause a Gust of Mist heal on the target.
  • Undocumented: Soothing Mist has reduced GCD to 1 sec.
  • Undocumented: Thunder Focus Tea is castable while channeling Soothing Mist.

I was going to start this post by appealing to Blizzard to implement a more WoD-style Soothing Mist, but they beat me to the punch. I logged into beta, and lo and behold! You can use Thunder Focus Tea without breaking the Soothing Mist channel AND Soothing Mist has reduced GCD to 1 sec instead of 1.5 sec. That had passed me by completely.

But the new rotation feel so smoooooth, and the added proc of Gust of Mist  was a welcome addition. It’s nice to see our mastery interact with Soothing Mist. I really hope that it has a higher proc chance on lower-health targets!

As I was testing the changes by healing dungeons, I noticed a serious issue though; Mana Tea is a major hassle to use, and here’s why.

New Beta Build – Mistweaver Buffs and Changes!

A new beta build came last night and there are new mistweaver changes implemented based on recent feedback! I’m glad to see that there’s a fruitful discussion between developers and mistweavers. Or at least, I assume so, looking at the changes that keep rolling in. I don’t visit forums very often, I like my happy corner here, but I don’t doubt that there’s lots of good mistweaver feedback from all corners of the internet!

Mistweaver Changes

  • Revival now heals for 200% of spell power, up from 180%.
  • Soothing Mist  – Each tick of SooM now has a chance to cause a Gust of Mist heal on the target.
  • Thunder Focus Tea
    • Renewing Mist: Changed to ‘Increases duration by 10 sec’ from ‘Not triggering the cooldown’ of the next Renewing Mist cast.
    • Enveloping Mist: The extra heal now heals for 250% of spell power, up from 130% (instant EvM aspect removed).
    • Removed Essence Font: Channels 100% faster.
    • NEW Rising Sun Kick: Reduces the cooldown of your next Rising Sun Kick by 9 sec.
  • The cleave heal of Vivify now heals for 60% of spell power, up from 45%.
  • Lifecycles now has 25% reduced mana cost of the next Vivify/Enveloping Mist cast, up from 20%.

The Big Mistweaver Feedback Post 2.0

Another pass has been made to Mistweavers and I still have a lot of feedback to give! So I’m just gonna softball this feedback post to the developers and hope I can contribute with some constructive discussion. I tried to be short and concise, but hah, I don’t have the talent for it.

The Feedback Part

After the last time I made a feedback post, we’ve had an upcoming update on Renewing Mist; it should now automatically jump if you try to overwrite it. Also, it seems that the developers heard us on the Thunder Focus Tea feedback as well:

Original Post, May 2 2018
Quick note – the TFT-Enveloping buff has a new instant heal component added on beta, which you still benefit from if you TFT-Enveloping during Soothing Mist. While this loses part of the value of the buff, it’s still a reasonable option to provide for when an instant heal seems important.

All that said, one concern with the current setup on beta is that TFT-Renewing might dominate the other uses of TFT too often. Some of the exact bonuses it provides may have to be adjusted once everything else settles.

Awesome Changes and Future Updates

While 6.0 have kept storming on and people have screamed themselves hoarse over the changes, there have been a few nuggets of news that have slipped by unnoticed. And to my great surprise, amazingly awesome changes for Mistweavers. I’m not talking about a big upheaval here, only a simply change that makes all the difference; two new spells are castable without breaking Soothing Mist. Thunder Focus Tea and Chi brew, people. Now this may not seem like much, but these small changes enabled me to clear up to wave 33 in Proving Grounds, compared to before when I struggled with Gold even.

Why is this so amazingly awesome then? It all takes it roots in the changes to how Soothing Mist and Surging Mist work. Before, we generated chi with Soothing Mist, and Surging Mist was basically an equivalent to Flash Heal; strong and expensive. Now Surging Mist is a base heal that gives us chi instead of Soothing Mist. This meant the loss of our Flash Heal equivalent, besides a slightly slower chi generation. But making Thunder Focus Tea castable during Soothing Mist means that we can use it to boost our Surging Mist instantly, making it a very strong Flash Heal. Making Chi Brew castable means that we can much easier get enough chi to do a quick Enveloping Mist.

When I did Proving Grounds on Beta, this has resulted in a much more fluid gameplay that is congruent with WoD healing (single-target heals are the way to go). Also, I could actually clear those bloody Chomps off the tank. That was an immense struggle before the change. Whoopie!
