The Big Mistweaver Feedback Post 3.0

Before I start, I just want to say that I think mistweavers are turning out great for Battle for Azeroth. We have active Soothing Mist back which contributes to a much smoother 5-man rotation, we got new and interesting talents on our talent tree and we’ve become more well-rounded. Nonetheless, there are a few areas that need polishing, which is why I’ve written this post! Let’s go through them together.

Soothing Mist Discussion

Changes since we last discussed it:

  • Soothing Mist  – Each tick of SooM now has a chance to cause a Gust of Mist heal on the target.
  • Undocumented: Soothing Mist has reduced GCD to 1 sec.
  • Undocumented: Thunder Focus Tea is castable while channeling Soothing Mist.

I was going to start this post by appealing to Blizzard to implement a more WoD-style Soothing Mist, but they beat me to the punch. I logged into beta, and lo and behold! You can use Thunder Focus Tea without breaking the Soothing Mist channel AND Soothing Mist has reduced GCD to 1 sec instead of 1.5 sec. That had passed me by completely.

But the new rotation feel so smoooooth, and the added proc of Gust of Mist  was a welcome addition. It’s nice to see our mastery interact with Soothing Mist. I really hope that it has a higher proc chance on lower-health targets!

As I was testing the changes by healing dungeons, I noticed a serious issue though; Mana Tea is a major hassle to use, and here’s why.

The Big Mistweaver Feedback Post 2.0

Another pass has been made to Mistweavers and I still have a lot of feedback to give! So I’m just gonna softball this feedback post to the developers and hope I can contribute with some constructive discussion. I tried to be short and concise, but hah, I don’t have the talent for it.

The Feedback Part

After the last time I made a feedback post, we’ve had an upcoming update on Renewing Mist; it should now automatically jump if you try to overwrite it. Also, it seems that the developers heard us on the Thunder Focus Tea feedback as well:

Original Post, May 2 2018
Quick note – the TFT-Enveloping buff has a new instant heal component added on beta, which you still benefit from if you TFT-Enveloping during Soothing Mist. While this loses part of the value of the buff, it’s still a reasonable option to provide for when an instant heal seems important.

All that said, one concern with the current setup on beta is that TFT-Renewing might dominate the other uses of TFT too often. Some of the exact bonuses it provides may have to be adjusted once everything else settles.

The Big Mistweaver Feedback Post 1.0

I have been on the alpha (build 26476) and tried the new mistweaver changes. I hope I’m catching the blizzard developers in one of their class-changing cycles right now, because there’s a lot of feedback I want to give – both good and bad! Here’s hoping that a developer sees this. I’ve tried to be clear and succinct in my feedback, but I’m still me so it’s longer than I planned. Oh, well!

General Impression

Overall, I’m positive about the changes and I think we’re going in the right direction for Mistweavers. So far, I’ve haven’t had the opportunity to raid heal on the alpha, but I’ve done plenty of dungeon healing, so my focus will probably be skewed in that direction in this post. I will go through both positive changes and some of the things I want improved.

Blue Posts and Class Hall Upgrades

While I’m finishing up the last work for April’s Patreon rewards, more alpha news has trickled in. Developers have commented on the new Essence Font change, which now indirectly benefits from mastery, and a first look at Class Hall upgrades has also been released. Also, the gold cap will be raised to 9,999,999 gold in Legion. Hue hue hue.

Developer Feedback – Mistweaver

Posted by Sigma, Blizzard.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the mastery has to come down a little, in terms of coefficient, after the EF change (what you’d expect for effectively increasing the number of spells affected by a mastery). It would also rein in the mastery benefit to Effuse somewhat. It’s not bad at all if the new mechanic introduces some more varied use cases for Effuse, but its tuning implications for will be a little clearer after seeing it in action more. Essence Font enabling those options is fine, but it’s important that mana is an important limitation on its uptime.

Effuse cost is already changed for next build, although not by much for now. We like the new mechanic, but Effuse, EF, and Gust of Mists are all pieces of the tuning picture that may shift around as it settles in. The nerf to mastery coefficient is simply to account for the fact that it now encompasses more spells, as would happen with any mastery. In fact, spreading the mastery benefit out slightly is something people have asked for.

Artifact Traits and Feedback

Datamining has reached the Artifacts talent tree, with all the so-far datamined traits. Fair warning though, this is probably an early sketch of the traits and once it is launched, we will most likely see something entirely different. I have no illusions that the final version will look anything like this, but it does give us an inkling of where the developers are going with the spec. And no one can stop me from speculating and… feedbacking!
