The Big Mistweaver Feedback Post 1.0

I have been on the alpha (build 26476) and tried the new mistweaver changes. I hope I’m catching the blizzard developers in one of their class-changing cycles right now, because there’s a lot of feedback I want to give – both good and bad! Here’s hoping that a developer sees this. I’ve tried to be clear and succinct in my feedback, but I’m still me so it’s longer than I planned. Oh, well!

General Impression

Overall, I’m positive about the changes and I think we’re going in the right direction for Mistweavers. So far, I’ve haven’t had the opportunity to raid heal on the alpha, but I’ve done plenty of dungeon healing, so my focus will probably be skewed in that direction in this post. I will go through both positive changes and some of the things I want improved.

The Feel of Legion Mistweaver – Part 2

A few days ago, I wrote a post about my thoughts on mistweavers’ toolkit in Legion alpha. My opinion is generally positive to the changes; we have a more adaptable and flexible toolkit that allows the mistweaver to tackle different types of encounters with greater ease. (If you haven’t read that post yet – you can read it here.) Expanding on that discussion, here’s part 2 where I review the new talent tree.

The Talent Tree

In my mind, the purpose of a talent tree is to give depth to a base toolkit, and you should be able to create depth with different builds that emphasize different strengths. There should be opportunity to talent for greater AoE healing vs single target healing, or more mobility, add control, damage, passive healing, or active healing, etc etc. Ideally, the talent tree can deepen the strength of characteristic that are important within the same raid tier as well. It’s not interesting to talent for greater mobility unless some of the encounters have mechanics that make mobility an attractive choice.

Since I haven’t done any raid testing yet, I have to review the talents without a Legion raid context. It’ll be my preliminary opinion, bound to change once I have more experience of the content. But there’s still value to give feedback, even at an early stage like this. And once again; I will overlook the numbers for now and focus on the feel of the talents instead.

New Alpha Build – New Zone and Brewmaster

A new alpha build has hit the servers! The zone Azsuna is now available, and so is the Brewmaster spec. Mistweavers had a few nerfs and changes, our Class Hall has updated UI and new models have been introduced. A small spoiler tag for Brewmaster acquisition quest is in order for this post.

Mistweaver Changes

  • Reawaken is now learned at level 44, up from level 14.
  • Rising Sun Kick now costs 3% mana, up from 2%.
  • Refreshing Jade Wind now heals for 225% of Spell Power, down from 355.5%.
  • Refreshing Jade Wind now also increases the healing of Essence Font by 20% while active.
  • Spirit of the Crane now causes Tiger Palm to make Blackout Kick or Rising Sun Kick refund 0.75% mana, down from 1%.
  • Fortune Turned no longer increases the effectiveness of Gusts of Mists and periodic healing of the initial target of Renewing Mist. It has been reworked to:
    • Your Effuse applies Fortune Turned to the target, increasing the healing received by your next Effuse by 15% for 6 sec. Stacks up to 3 times.
  • Provoke is now available to all Monk specs.

It’s sad to see the heavy mana nerf to the fistweaving build; it reduces its viability and can potentially hurt talent diversity in the long run. But it’s only alpha and a long way till launch, we will have to see how the build performs in raid testing as well!

Monk Hall UI Updates
Monk Hall UI

Mistweaver Animations Video

Good evening, my fellow Mistweavers!
Today I finished my little project of recording a video of the new Mistweaver animations. Not all abilities have been recorded, but I’ve included those with notable spell effects, especially the new ones. Since it’s alpha, they might be changed, maybe even as early as the next build. But for now, this is how the spells, talents and artifact traits look. Enjoy!

Alpha Dungeon Videos

It is fairly quiet in the World of Warcraft – alpha builds has been more focused on adjusting the classes after feedback, rather than overarching changes. New dungeons have opened though, and FatbossTV has been kind enough to share their experience. Here are the new dungeons:

Alpha Re-Launched and Design Notes!

Rejoice everyone, the alpha is up again and more WoW related news starts rolling in! First up, we have the patch notes of which I will of course focus on the Mistweaver related ones. Then we have some Design Notes on Tank & Healer design, which discussed the new view on both Tanks and tank healing – a very interesting read. Lastly, a plethora of cool new mounts and pets and other models. Have a look!

Fox

Patch Notes – Mistweaver

  • Invoke Chi’Ji’s Crane Heal now heal for 150% of SP, down from 200%.
  • Life Cocoon has now a 3 min cooldown, up from 2 min.
  • Renewing Mist now costs 2.8% mana, down from 3.5%.
  • Spinning Crane Kick now does 133.2% of AP, down from 600%.
  • Summon Jade Serpent Statue now heals for 50% as much as you.
  • Thunder Focus Tea now empowers Effuse for 150%, up from 100%.
  • Dampen Harm now reduces 30% of the three next incoming damage, down from 50%.
  • Diffuse Magic now reduces 60% of all magic damage taken, down from 90%.

Maybe not as much changes as was expected, but the changes were in line with the feedback. For example, SCK did way too much damage and worked as a better filler than any of the other damaging spells – at single target! The increase in cooldown of Life Cocoon was a bit a surprise, until you had a chance to read up on the design notes. Tank cooldowns have been nerfed cross the board, so it is not only a Mistweaver related thing. I will assume there will be more changes to come in future iterations though!

Artifact Traits and Feedback

Datamining has reached the Artifacts talent tree, with all the so-far datamined traits. Fair warning though, this is probably an early sketch of the traits and once it is launched, we will most likely see something entirely different. I have no illusions that the final version will look anything like this, but it does give us an inkling of where the developers are going with the spec. And no one can stop me from speculating and… feedbacking!
